How can I make exercise easy?

Today I want to talk about how to remove the rules and make it easy for ourselves to move our bodies.

I recently started going to the gym again after many years of just enjoying doing my KT Gym at home.

I to join the gym again as they have machines that can work some muscles in better ways.

I stopped going to gyms over a decade ago though because it was all too hard to manage; packing a bag so I could do it before or after work, having to set aside at least 2 hours of my day to get there, do a work out etc. It was all too arduous on top of hectic work and life schedules it was not something I could maintain.

But now I’ve change the rules that I had about going to gym.

I am now near enough to a gym that I can walk there in my lunch hour and I make it as easy as possible for me to overcome the obstacle of myself so I can go 3 times a week.

To overcome my own objections about how time/effort/interest, I make it as easy as possible for myself. I don’t change my clothes or my shoes (I normally wear sensible footwear through the day anyway) and I do a 20 – 30 min work out including a bit of a stretch and I do what I feel like doing on any given day.

I long ago realized that I can make things easy for myself or hard, I can do things the “expected” way or the way I want to do it.

Sure, I get some looks as I’m the only one in work gear doing a work out while they all wear the standard tight fitting designer active wear, but I no longer care about fitting in, so I don’t mind standing out.

I design my own work out and I do what I want to do on any given day. Because I don’t follow any particular program, that gives me freedom to enjoy the work out rather than making it a chore. When I give myself freedom to do what I feel like doing, that makes it easy to overcome my brains objections that “I’m too tired/don’t have time/don’t feel like it”.

My advice is to always read the instructions on the machines, focus on posture, ask others for help if you don’t understand something and simply enjoy working and strengthening your body.

It’s easy to fit in some extra activity and physical health enhancing activities if we just change our rules about how to do it.
