What’s your plan for the next 12 months? What’s life going to look like come December 31st of this year? Or for that matter, what’s life going to look like come December 31st of every year after that?
This week I’m talking about how short-sighted we are and what we can do about it.
Weight loss New Year’s resolutions are a dime a dozen, everyone has one but it’s a rarity to find someone who actually has a plan in place for achieving it.
Achieving goals takes commitment, planning, focused attention, dedication and determination.
That all sounds like hard work, right? That’s because it is.
I’m sure you’ve heard the old saying that if you fail to plan, then you’re planning to fail.
Well, the reality is, most people who make a weight loss plan, who take the time to sit and etch out the steps they need to take to reach their goal successfully, are all planning to fail as well.
Over 25 years of dieting, I can honestly tell you I fell into that trap myself so many times I lost count.
I’d start out on a quest to lose weight and I’d spend days and weeks creating the plan that I thought would get me there.
I planned the what, the where, the when, the how much. I scheduled stuff in my diary, I put up notes on the wall, I sketched out what had to be achieved every month, week and day.
I thought because I had such a detailed plan that I was bound for success, that success would be given to me on a silver platter. So I was always bewildered and devastated when everything fell over and I realised that I was nowhere near reaching my goals.
The truth is that a weight loss journey is like being in a survival situation. We have to overcome great challenges and go to battle – many times a day.
And depending on how much weight we have to lose, that battle can go on for a very long time.
It’s not called the battle of the bulge for nothing right?
We have internal and external battles that we’re not equipped for and we don’t have the resources that will enable us to win.
It’s an intense struggle for anyone who has a true weight problem, because food is linked to every part of our life.
That’s why the Food Is My Friend™ course is so valuable, because food is the most complex relationship we have to navigate change with.
The greatest challenge – the battle – is in our own mind!
Not just to overcome cravings for food either.
But to overcome the way we live our life so we can change the way we live our life.
Because it’s our life – how we think, feel and deal with life that keeps leading us down the same road that leads us back to where we started:
! Overweight
! Bloated
! Lethargic
! Disgusted
! And we don’t even know how the f*** we got there, again!
If you’re New Year’s resolution was to lose weight, gain health and have choices, freedom and control, make your plan, but make a real life plan, one that will get you through the challenges, and will lead you over the obstacles.
