What if I said I had a time machine and you could go back to anytime in your past?
You can't change anything.
But you can bring back with you whatever experiences you'd like.
What would you bring forward into your current life so you can experience it again?
You're not going to bring back the terrible ones are you? No way.
Yet re-living the unhappy experiences from the past is what your mind does, over and over again.
WHY DO WE DO THAT?
Because when things don't go right, when things don't go the way we'd like them to, our brain can get very focused on trying to work out why it didn't' go the way we wanted, how we got taken by surprise, how we got taken advantage of; emotionally, financially, physically, spiritually or even mentally. It does it so you can avoid the same thing happening again. That’s its job to do that.
But it gets caught up in trying to resolve something that's already happened, something that can't be changed.
Like a dog with a bone, it keeps digging it up and chewing on it, over and over and over.
But unlike the bone, it never seems to go away or diminish in any way.
In fact, going over and over and over something in your mind simply gives it life and you keep re-living it and you live your life thinking about things that cannot be changed instead of looking to the future and creating a life you love.

WHAT IF......
What if you decided to allow yourself to choose to do something new?
What if you decided to allow yourself to choose to notice when you were visiting the past and bringing back something unpleasant?
What if you noticed you were digging up that rotting old bone and decided to stop digging, just for a moment, long enough to realise what you were actually digging up?
What if you kick the dirt back over it? Turn your gaze to something more pleasing, something that brings a smile to your face, something that leaves you with some of those good time feelings?
It can be anything at all; something from your past that's good to relive, or something from where you are in that moment, it can be something you saw on TV or read in a book, it can be something that you are planning on enjoying in the future. There are so many places we can go in our mind and in life, that are more pleasing to us.
It doesn’t have to be big, it doesn't have to be fancy, it simply needs to be easy on your mind.
BE PLAYFUL
Make it a game. Be playful. Have fun.
Think of it like a game of tag; your brain goes off thinking about things that are unhelpful, you catch it and side line it, you say to yourself “Hey, I see you, that’s a relevant point you have but how about we put that one over there on the bench for later and right now, let’s think about {insert your new positive, forward focused, empowering thought here}.”
The more times you catch it and stick it on the bench, the better you feel, and the better you feel, the easier life feels, and the easier life feels, the happier you become.
This isn’t positive thinking, its correcting thinking.
