Emotional eating has a massive impact on our weight and health and one of the keys to reducing emotional and stress eating is to increase relaxation.
Taking simple steps to find some little pockets of “you time” throughout the day is one way to begin to reduce stress and increase feelings of calm.
Another way to break-away from this long standing learned behaviour is to simply be aware that you’re about to engage in emotional eating and take steps to reduce that drive towards putting food in your mouth.
That’s easier said then done though isn’t it.
I shared my story last night at the Happy Healthy Workshop: Find Your Food Freedom In 5 Simple Steps & Lose Weight Before Christmas of knowing all too well the shame of feeling out of control and that food was my enemy when emotional and stress eating would kick in.
Sure there were times when I was the one in control and I was able to abstain – heck, that’s how I was able to lose weight on all those diets I did. But there were those other times, the times when the weight came back and the times when the weight would increase further, they were the times I had no control of those inner driving forces.
The words “willpower” and “mindset” get bandied about pretty readily these days as things we are missing and things we need to develop.
But lets face it, both willpower and mindset are fickle things and like growing a beautiful garden, they take planning, knowledge, time, attention and resources to cultivate, it just doesn’t happen on it’s own.
I didn’t find my freedom until I sat down and pulled together the knowledge and understanding that I had gathered over 25 years.
When I put it into order, created a process and started to apply it DAILY , then I was able to break the cycle.
That was 12 years ago and I’m still using that same process today to maintain my freedom from emotional and stress eating and weight gain.
