Laugh yourself skinny

Life can feel very serious sometimes can’t it?  

 

There are always a zillion reasons to feel cautious, concerned or even afraid, but equally there are always a zillion reasons to feel interested, light-hearted and a little bit playful.  

 

What if we remind ourselves every morning when we get up, that “today, I will remember to pause for some playfulness”? 

 

But why should you pause for playfulness I hear you ask?   

 

Because we‘ve have a brain that’s always on alert for things to be concerned about and all our internal chatter and dialogue, which is negatively geared because it is on alert, never stops. 

 

We’re also emotional beings and by default, your emotions arealways reactionary to your environment.   

 

We need to stay playful and make the most of this totally mystifying thing called life. 

 

We don't know why we're here so we might as well do things that make us feel those good feelings and enjoy every waking hour as much as we can.  

 

If you’re overweight, and you’ve been overweight for a long time, it’s most likely because you’ve been coping with life using food and beverages to soothe and manage your emotions and alleviate stress and tension, which means you have more stress and tension than you have relaxation and joy.  

 

And if you have more stress and tension in your life than you do relaxation and joy and you’re overweight, then you’re already feeling very restricted, aren’t you? 

 

So going on a rigid, restricting diet and/or exercise program is really just compounding the issue.  

 

Great change doesn’t happen when you tighten down and restrict yourself more.  

 

Great and lasting change happens when you loosen up and release your grip and allow yourself to have fun. 

 

Oscar Wilde said – “Life is too important to be taken seriously!” 

 

And laughter, fun and happiness are the antidote to all things that ail you!

  • Triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good chemicals that promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain 
  • Protects your heart by improving the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow

  • Relaxes the whole body 
  • Burns calories 
  • Releases tension and stress 
  • Breaks the cycle of negative thoughts 
  • Helps you to think more clearly 
  • Improves self-esteem 
  • Improves your social life - makes you enjoyable to be around  
  • Laughing with others makes you feel more connected  
  • Increases your optimism 
  • Lifts your mood 
  • Increases energy 
  • Exercises your facial muscles 
  • Increases oxygen in the front part of your brain, makes you more productive 
  • You just feel good! 

 

NOT FEELING LIGHT-HEARTED?

 

Just close your eyes now for 2 seconds, soften your tummy, think about kids laughing and playing, remember a time you were laughing, let that memory fill you up….and you’re there…. 

 

Laugh hard. 

Laugh long. 

Laugh till you shoot milk out your nose. 

Laugh till it hurts and then laugh some more. 

 

You will always hear my happy heart singing anytime I am laughing.
