The biggest lie in weight loss is that losing weight = being healthy.

Today I’m asking you what is it that you’re after? Are you after weight loss or a healthy body or both?  

I ask because everyone I’ve ever spoken to who wants to lose weight, ultimately wants to lose it so they can feel better  

They want to lose their excess weight so they can: 

  • Sleep better 
  • Move more freely 
  • Cope with the climate better 
  • Feel more comfortable in their clothes during the day so they feel more relaxed 
  • They want their body to look nicer naked so they feel more confident to have sex or put on their swimmers and go the beach  

They also want to lose their excess weight so they can sit in seats at the movies or on aeroplanes, so they get out more and see new things that enrich their life. They want to join in with life, relax, and think about other things, things that give them joy and happiness. 

The problem I see, and experienced myself many times over while I was stuck in dieting hell™ for those 25 years, is that the weight loss solutions marketed to us on a daily basis are for weight loss, not a healthy body. 

We’re encouraged to believe that eating highly processed calorie controlled foods filled with artificial sweeteners and a cacophony of ingredients to give them a great “mouth feel”, are a healthy choice. 

We’re also encouraged to believe that we can break free from a lifetime of battling with our eating behaviours through taking a plethora of man-made supplements or drugs to do everything from replace the vitamins and minerals we’re not consuming in our sugar and fat laden diets to revving up our already overburdened nervous systems in order to reduce our appetite and lose weight faster. All without any effort on our part to make any actual changes to our thoughts, feelings, behaviours and habits - ie the way we live our life.  

We want to lose weight to have a better quality of life and that better quality of life can only come through flexibility, mobility, vitality and a relaxed calm nervous system, peaceful mind, emotional stability and physical freedom. 

Today I invite you to think about what you want, what you’re doing to achieve it and if they’re a match?  

  • Are you doing the things that you promised yourself at the start of the year? 
  • Are the things that you’re doing going to create what you want? 
  • Or are you stuck in the same repeating cycle you’ve been stuck in?
