“If you get caught in a rip, don’t discard your surfboard!”
I was both amused and amazed at what my surfing instructor said.
“Who on earth would throw away their floaty device when they're being pulled out to sea?!” I asked
“Almost all beginners.” he said.
“They panic and in their panic the board is seen as a hindrance, something that‘s dragging them out to sea, so they ditch it, thinking without the board, they’ll be able to swim to shore faster, but instead they exhaust themselves and drown.”
In that moment, I had a startling epiphany!
Whenever I felt myself caught in a rip and being pulled out to sea in my life, I too discarded my floaty devices!
I’d get so fixated on getting through whatever crisis I was in, so fixated on making “it to shore and safety”, that I’d batten down the hatches and forget about everything else.
But as I’d swim against the current of my life I’d get...
Starting a new diet is like trying to take a drink from a fire hydrant.
There's so much information to take in about what to eat, when to eat, how much to eat while trying to work it all out now before your next meal.
Changing your diet takes a lot of mental effort because you have to change the way you think about food, what you’re having at each meal, everything that’s currently in your pantry, you have to think about how you meal plan, shop, cook, and how the changes you want to make impact the other people in your life.
Jumping in boots ultimately adds tension to all systems of your life.
Real lasting change comes though through a well thought out plan that's implemented incrementally.
And a great plan begins with thinking about the big picture.
You need to know where you are, where you want to be and what has to change for you to get there.
Step 1 List out your known resources:
When we think about making changes, we often procrastinate because we think of change as 'challenging', 'daunting', 'uncomfortable' or we just plain dread it.
We think we have to give up something to gain something and we're not always keen on giving up things we've grown attached to, even if they're things that no longer serve us in helpful, healthy or happy ways.
Forget about having to give anything up, you can simply allow yourself to out grow it.
Out growing stuff is easy right?
You've been doing it your whole life.
You've outgrown:
Santa
The tooth fairy
Sucking your thumb
Being scared of the dark
Toys you've loved
Friends from childhood
Friends from school
People you used to work with
Neighbours you no longer live next too
Groups you're no longer involved with
Schedules you've lived by
Having someone look after you
Playground scuffles
Being upset with your friend for having their lunch with someone else
The fashion you wore in the 80's
The hairstyle you had when you were a teenager
Eating your...
Here is just one of the many advice I give my client.
Have you seen the movie Yes Man with Jim Carrey?
Great movie about how saying "Yes" to everything can create radical change.
But for the women I work with, not saying "Yes" isn't their problem.
In fact, saying "Yes" is how they've gotten in the situation their in.
They've said "Yes" to soooo many things, they're on the verge of mental, emotional and physical burnout.
"No" is the word that's missing from your vocabulary;
No to more & more responsibilities
No to every person who steps on your boundaries
No to not speaking up
No to the voice in your head
No to chronic stress
No to being paid less than your male colleagues
No feeling powerless
No to conditioning
No to believing you have to do it all
No to not asking for help
No to emotional and comfort eating
No to not looking after your health
Learn the exciting art of saying NO.
And say YES to healthy, happy, living.
Dietless Living helps overweight, overwhelmed women master their mind so they can master their health & live, laugh, lose weight,...
I was always very afraid of guns, I'd never touched one and the only knowledge I had of them was what I had seen on the news or in movies.
So when I was invited to join in a Shoot 4 Fun event with the Queensland Rife Association I took the opportunity to overcome my fear.
What I learned on that day is that there is nothing to be afraid of, when you know what you’re doing, which in this case was taking careful instruction from the trainer and coaches on the day, anything is doable.
I was even awarded a little certificate for being the best shot for a newbie.
But what I really got out of the whole day (apart from a lot of fun) was that everything in life is like everything else in life.
The key to shooting straight and getting in the bullseye zone is the same for reaching your goals in life:
Set up your target - know what you’re aiming for
Prepare your equipment
Settle in
Slow everything down, breathe low and slow
Relax your grip
Focus in on the...
Do you give your energy away to other people?
Reclaim your energy and make yourself your priority.
Have you ever found yourself in a situation, and wondered ''how the heck did I get here?''
I know I have…..many, many, maaaany times, especially with my weight! And I was always left wondering how did I allow it to happen?
Then I learned the theory of how to boil a frog and it changed my life.
To boil a frog: put him in a pot of room temperature water and then very very slowly keep adjusting the heat and the frog will make adjustment after adjustment after adjustment in its body temperature until eventually it accidentally allows itself to be boiled.
When you gain weight, you do the same thing, you make adjustment after adjustment after adjustment:
You start wearing the clothes that are a bit looser
You let your belt out a notch
You go shopping and buy new clothes but they are the next size up
You stop getting on the scales because you don't like what they say
You stop looking at yourself naked in the mirror or you make sure it's at the most flattering angle...
What it is that you really want?
To establish the direction that you want to go in, you have to have a bigger why so you know where you're going and you can create a map to it.
Your brain is one of the smartest living organisms on the planet.
Yep, that's right - YOUR brain is one of the smartest living organisms on the planet!
I know, the best kept secret isn't it! No one has ever told you that your brain is as smart as everyone else's.
Your brain has so many facets to it, so much complexity, so much genius, and above all, it is ready, willing and able to do what you want it to do.
Everything that you currently do, your brain learned how to do it.
So the reality is that everything you want to do, your brain will learn that too.
And that is what our work together in Dietless Living Academy is doing, training your brain to do what you want.
When you're learning something new, you know it's going to take time to get from being a beginner to being a master.
When you're un-learning how to do something your brain already does, then it's also going to take time for it to go from being a master of doing things the old way to...
